ICO reminds app developers to protect user privacy

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has reminded app developers to prioritise the protection of users' privacy, especially with regard to sensitive information. This reminder comes after the ICO's review of period and fertility apps in September 2023, which examined how they process personal data and whether there's any negative impact on users. Though no serious compliance issues or evidence of harm were found, the ICO has shared four practical tips for app developers to comply with their data protection obligations and maintain user privacy. The ICO will also be sharing advice with app users soon on how they can further protect their privacy.
