Mozilla highlights privacy strengths & weaknesses of connected gifts

Mozilla's Privacy Not Included shopping guide for 2021 identifies 47 connected gifts that have problematic privacy practices and 22 products that protect user privacy. Mozilla researchers examined 151 popular connected gifts in all to determine if they had cameras, location tracking features or other data collection tools. Lead researcher Jen Caltrider said smart exercise equipment "stood out as especially problematic," adding, "We also found that consumers continue to shoulder way too much of the responsibility to protect their own privacy and security."
