Representatives from England's Local Medical Committee (LMC) voted for a motion to increase the scrutiny on the bidders for the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP) contract to ensure high standards in security, privacy and ethics. The vote took place during a British Medical Association (BMA) GP Committee's conference last week. Dr Katie Bramall-Stainer, CEO of Cambridgeshire LMC, said: "NHS England is still peddling the line that the procurement hasn't yet started and there are other players bidding for the work." This is despite the National Data Guardian (NDG) stressing "the important role that transparency in data use plays in the building of public trust" for the FDP programme's success in her annual report.
In related news, the Financial Times (£) reports that the NHS has broken up a £400mn FDP contract. Palantir is still expected to win the £360m contract for the platform, but specific aspects relating to privacy-enhancing technologies will be awarded to a different provider.
