Met police Commissioner vows to reform gang violence matrix

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has said that the gang violence matrix (GVM), which predominantly targeted black males, "amplified disproportionality" and must be reformed. The UK's most senior police officer vowed to implement reforms following the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan's calls for change. A report released Monday found: "There remains an over-representation of young Black males on the overall GVM population as compared to police recorded offending and victimisation cohorts." Commissioner Rowley said: “We acknowledge that the gangs violence matrix does need to be redesigned, taking into account improvements in statistical methods and technologies."
