Author of GP data sharing scheme had opted out

The author of the government's Goldacre Review, which investigated the sharing of GP medical data, decided to opt out of the General Practice Data for Planning and Research (GPDPR) scheme. The National Data Guardian warned the government of its plans, which were eventually scrapped. However, before the plan was aborted, Professor Ben Goldacre told the Commons Science and Technology Committee that he was concerned about the risks of deanonymisation.
