Italian DPA highlights battle regulators face recruiting AI experts

The Italian data protection authority (DPA), the Garante, has highlighted the extent of the challenge it and other regulatory authorities will face when attempting to recruit artificial intelligence (AI) experts.

Shortly after the DPA temporarily banned ChatGPT in March 2023, a dozen candidates withdrew from the recruitment process due to payment issues. Garante board member Guido Scorza admitted that the search process went worse than they expected, and they lost potential candidates.
