Irish Government appoints two new Data Protection Commissioners

The Irish Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee TD, has announced the appointment of two new Data Protection Commissioners. Dr Des Hogan, who previously served as Assistant Chief State Solicitor since 2015, and Mr Dale Sunderland, a Deputy Commissioner at the Data Protection Commission (DPC) since 2016, will take up their positions on 20 February for a five-year term. Dr Hogan has also been appointed Chair of the DPC. The new Commissioners were selected through an open competition by the Public Appointments Service. A third Commissioner vacancy will be filled as soon as possible.

Minister McEntee also paid tribute to outgoing Data Protection Commissioner Helen Dixon.
