The Irish Data Protection Commission has issued Meta a €17 million fine for a series of twelve data breaches that occurred between June and December 2018. The DPC investigation determined that Meta violated Articles 5 and 24 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation in the processing of personal data related to the twelve breach notifications. The DPC said, "consensus was achieved through further engagement," even though two EU supervisory authorities raised objections.
In related news, the DPC published a report providing statistics on its handling of cross-border complaints under the GDPR's one-stop-shop mechanism.
