The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has welcomed the convictions of two additional individuals involved in the illegal theft and sale of personal data. This brings the total number of convictions in the case to 13, including the eight men found guilty in June 2025.
Christopher Munro and William Chipoma were charged following an investigation into the unlawful accessing of records from over 400 UK garages, alongside insurance and claims management companies.
The investigation revealed that both men intentionally sought employment to steal data. Munro accessed thousands of records and received £16,000 in payments, while Chipoma received £70,550 for selling personal information between 2015 and 2017.
Appearing at Minshull Street Crown Court on 11 February 2026, the two men pleaded guilty to offences under the Computer Misuse Act 1990 and Section 55 of the Data Protection Act 1998. Chipoma received a 10-month suspended prison sentence and 240 hours of unpaid work, while Munro was handed a 32-week suspended sentence and 150 hours of unpaid work.
