In its response, the ICO supports the "White Paper’s ambitions to empower responsible innovation and sustainable economic growth," through a central government function to oversee the AI regulatory landscape. However, the ICO calls for clarity on the roles of government and regulators in issuing guidance and specifically to ensure that AI principles are compatible with data protection principles. The ICO also commented on the joint regulatory sandbox, highlighting its own Regulatory Sandbox, Innovation Advice and Innovation Hub.
