ICO publishes Imgur monetary penalty notice

26/02/2026 | ICO

Less than a day after we submitted a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 asking why the ICO has yet to publish the monetary penalty notices for Reddit and Imgur, the Imgur notice concerning its Â£247,590 fine over children's data protection failures has appeared on its website. While dated 4 February, a closer look at the source code (right-click on the page and select View Page Source) confirms that it was published on 26 February.

The ICO found that the company violated articles 5(1)(a), 6, 8 and 35 of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The penalty was reduced from the £393,000 proposed in the notice of intent dated 10 September 2025, following consideration of MediaLab's representations and updated financial information.
