ICO offers tips for buying smart devices on Black Friday

In the run-up to Black Friday, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has published a blog offering tips to shoppers buying smart technology. Smart devices are expected to be one of the most popular categories this year as the UK public is on the lookout for bargains during the annual sales event. Although smart tech comes with a range of benefits, including answering questions and alerting you about visitors, the risks to personal data are often unclear, the ICO warns. Studies reveal that 52% of UK citizens are unaware of how their personal data is being collected and used. This is particularly worrying when it comes to smart devices that continuously collect information in the background.
