The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has fined five companies £590,000 for attempting to sell insurance products to elderly people. Andy Curry, Head of ICO Investigations said: "We’ve heard harrowing stories of people being hounded with these nuisance calls, and feeling forced into handing over bank details for unwanted and unnecessary insurance. We’re working to protect people who are being deliberately targeted because they’re seen as easy pickings by unscrupulous cold callers."
- House Hold Appliances 247 Ltd was fined £55,000 and issued an enforcement notice after it was found to have made 19,069 marketing calls to individuals in breach of regulation 21 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).
- RHAP Ltd was fined £65,000 and issued an enforcement notice for making 15,288 marketing calls to individuals in breach of regulation 21 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).
- SGS Home Protect Ltd was fined £70,000 and issued an enforcement notice after it was found to have made 24,214 marketing calls to individuals in breach of regulation 21 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).
- F12 Management Ltd was fined £200,000 and issued an enforcement notice after it was found to have made 1,346,019 marketing calls to individuals in breach of regulation 21 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).
- Cover Appliance Ltd was fined £200,000 and issued an enforcement notice after it was found to have made 511,499 marketing calls to individuals in breach of regulation 21 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).
