Data localisation laws add to complexity of cross-border transfers

The growing complexities surrounding international data transfers were highlighted during the IAPP Global Privacy Summit 2024 in Washington, DC, this week. IAPP Staff Writer Alex LaCasse comments on a number of breakout sessions that delved into the challenges facing data flows, including diverging regulations, perceived adequacy decision pitfalls, and other legal considerations. However, LaCasse writes that data localisation requirements have emerged as the most pressing potential transfer barriers.
