Addressing the challenges created by the EHDS

In an op-ed for the IAPP, Covington & Burling Of Counsel Kristof Van Quathem discusses the "unique challenges" created by the European Health Data Space (EHDS). One such challenge involves the EHDS stipulation that users can only access anonymous data through the secure platform of the health data access body. However, the absence of an agreed European standard for defining anonymous data raises concerns. Van Quathem highlights that if the anonymization standard is overly stringent, data users may resort to requesting pseudonymous data as the anonymous data may not serve its intended purpose.
