MEPs are expected to support bans on certain types of AI, such as remote biometric identification systems and predictive policing, while also proposing tailor-made rules for generative AI. To encourage AI innovation, exemptions for research activities and open-source AI components are also being proposed, as well as the use of "regulatory sandboxes" to test AI in controlled environments.
