G7 Leaders agree on AI Guiding Principles and Code of Conduct

The European Commission has welcomed an agreement by the leaders of the G7 countries in relation to a set of International Guiding Principles on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and a voluntary Code of Conduct for AI developers. The agreement was reached on 30 October, in accordance with the Hiroshima AI Process established at the G7 Summit in May 2023, which aims to promote guardrails for advanced AI systems globally

  • The Guiding Principles aim to assist organisations in developing and deploying AI systems that are safe and trustworthy. 
  • The principles cover various aspects of AI development, including identifying and mitigating risks, promoting transparency, and investing in robust security controls. 
  • The Code of Conduct builds on the guiding principles and provides detailed and practical guidance for organisations developing AI.
