Rift emerges between France and Germany's views on data sovereignty

The diverging views of Germany and France on digital sovereignty in the cloud industry have been brought to the fore with Amazon Web Services (AWS) announcement last week over the launch of its European Sovereign Cloud (ESR) service. French centrist MP Philippe Latombe is concerned about the endorsement of AWS's ESR service by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), fearing that it may be used to exert pressure against France's highest cloud security certification, SecNumCloud.
