EDPB adopts data transfer statement and publishes GDPR guidance

The European Data Protection Board has adopted a statement on data transfer agreements between EU member states and third countries. The EDPB tells member states all data transfer agreements made before May 2016 should remain intact as stated within the provisions of the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the Law Enforcement Directive, but the EDPB invites member states to assess and, where necessary, review those agreements. This follows the release of two opinions on UK Adequacy, in which the EDPB confirmed strong alignment but warned challenges remain. The EDPB also published its guidelines on the application of Article 65(1)(a) of the GDPR.
