ICO not equipped to regulate biometrics surveillance

Outgoing UK Biometrics and Surveillance Camera Commissioner Professor Fraser Sampson has voiced concerns that the Data Protection and Digital Information (No.2) Bill is based on the premise that "public space surveillance is simply a subset of wider data protection and privacy". As a result, Professor Sampson argued that the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) would be expected to fill the gap left by the absorption of the Surveillance Camera Commissioner but that the ICO does not have the resources to cover pressing subjects that fall within the data protection remit.
