Adidas customer data targeted in latest retail data breach
27/05/2025 | BBC News
German sportswear company Adidas has become the latest retailer to announce that it suffered a cyberattack. The news comes after three of the UK's most recognisable retail brands were all targeted.
The attack on Adidas occurred after an unauthorised external party gained access to certain consumer data through a third-party customer service provider. The company announced the incident on Friday, 23 May 2025, and said that it had immediately taken steps to contain the breach and launched a comprehensive investigation with cybersecurity experts.
Adidas clarified that the stolen information consists mostly of contact details for customers who had previously interacted with their customer service help desk. Critically, the company confirmed that no payment-related information or passwords were compromised in the incident.
Adidas is in the process of notifying potentially affected customers, as well as relevant data protection and law enforcement authorities, in accordance with applicable laws.
