The latest Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report analysed over 22,000 security incidents and 12,195 confirmed data breaches. The report's key findings identified that 44% of all breaches analysed involved ransomware, marking a notable rise from the previous year's report.
In addition, 30% of breaches included third-party involvement, almost double the amount from the previous year, and partly caused by vulnerability exploitation and business interruptions. There was also a 34% increase in attackers exploiting vulnerabilities to gain initial access and cause security breaches compared to the previous year. Organisations fully remediated 54% of perimeter-device vulnerabilities over the period, while almost half remained unresolved.
