G7 Cyber Expert Group statement on AI and cybersecurity

22/09/2025 | US Government

The G7 Cyber Expert Group (CEG) is urging G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to proactively address the evolving cybersecurity risks posed by artificial intelligence. In a new paper, the CEG acknowledges that while AI offers significant opportunities to enhance the financial sector’s capabilities, its use by malicious actors could increase the frequency and impact of cyber-attacks. The group warns that the increasing complexity and autonomy of AI systems, particularly generative and agentic AI, introduce novel cybersecurity risks. The CEG is encouraging jurisdictions to monitor developments, promote collaboration across public, private, and academic sectors, and build resilience in the financial system.
