The importance of privacy iconography

Following the launch of the California Consumer Privacy Act’s Privacy Options icon, researchers from the University of Michigan and Carnegie Mellon University will share their results at the CHI 2021 conference in May. The icon helps consumers opt-out of the sale of their private information by merchants, social media companies and other businesses. “We hope that policymakers and researchers collaborating in this way can become a model approach towards more usable consumer notices and controls in privacy and other contexts,” said CMU CyLab Director Lorrie Faith Cranor, CIPT.
