UN special rapporteur discusses COVID-19 privacy, surveillance

United Nations' Special Rapporteur on the Right to Privacy Joseph Cannataci discussed his concerns over privacy and surveillance stemming from COVID-19 contact tracing in a speech about an annual report on privacy "This is a very disturbing trend; all-pervasive surveillance is no panacea for COVID-19." Cannataci said. "I urgently remind states that any responses to the coronavirus must be proportionate, necessary and non-discriminatory." Cannataci also spoke on concerns related to the use of health and patient data to curb COVID-19 spread.
