On Tuesday, 21 January 2025, the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) announced a new package of artificial intelligence (AI) tools (called Humphrey) along with proposals for improved data-sharing. The changes will see a new team set up within DSIT to "cut across Whitehall barriers" in order to "join up public services" and reduce the number of times members of the public have to tell different parts of the public sector the same thing.

Peter Kyle, the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, underscored the detrimental impact of outdated technology on public services, stating that it has wasted considerable time and resources. Instead, he argues that the government's commitment to revolutionise information sharing and collaboration within the sector will better serve the public. The announcement also included the release of a blueprint for a modern digital government, which outlines plans for overhauling digital service delivery and optimising the £23 billion annual technology budget. This overhaul will begin with the creation of a Digital Commercial Centre of Excellence, marking a significant step toward a more integrated and efficient public service system.
