New app launched to streamline access to UK public services

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) has launched a new mobile app to revolutionise access to government services. Launched in "public beta" from 1 July 2025, the GOV.UK App will initially connect to existing government websites that currently receive 88 million visits each month. Its goal is to streamline interactions with public services, providing users with a smooth experience akin to that of mobile banking and online shopping.

Future enhancements include the integration with the government's generative AI chatbot, GOV.UK Chat, to quickly answer questions by sourcing relevant information from over 700,000 pages on the GOV.UK website, covering topics from business setup to passport applications and parental support. Following this, efforts will focus on streamlining government benefit applications through the app to simplify the process for eligible individuals and combat fraud.

In a statement, Peter Kyle, Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, said: "Our new GOV.UK App shows for the first time how this government is overhauling taxpayer-funded services as we deliver on our Plan for Change. By putting public services in your pocket, we will do away with clunky paper forms and hours spent on hold, so you can immediately get the information you need and continue on with the rest of your day."
