The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has announced that the newly established Information Commission has formally assumed the statutory functions of the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). We understand the regulator is planning to keep its well-known abbreviated name, the ICO.
The change updates the regulator's governance structure from a corporation sole model, where statutory authority was vested in an individual Commissioner, to a body corporate with executive and non-executive members who share collective responsibility for decision-making.
In a statement, the ICO confirmed the board has appointed Maggie Carver as Deputy Chair.
In addition, the ICO will move from Wilmslow, Cheshire, to its new headquarters on Oxford Road in Manchester.
