More details have emerged about the government's People's Panel on Digital ID, which is gathering public recommendations on the design of a national digital identity system. Approximately 100 to 120 participants are being selected from 36,000 invited households to represent a diverse cross-section of the population. Those chosen will receive £550, plus expenses covering travel, accommodation, and childcare, for attending seven sessions held across two weekends in Birmingham and three online evening workshops.
The panel is being managed by the Sortition Foundation and Ipsos, with the government expected to spend £630,000 on the initiative. Participants will hear from experts and ministers before providing feedback. No prior knowledge of the topic is required, as the aim is to capture a wide range of honest opinions.
