ICO unresolved data protection complaints within 90 days hit record-high
08/04/2025 | The Register
The latest quarterly performance report by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) reveals a significant increase in unresolved complaints, while the percentage of complaints responded to within 90 days has fallen to 12.3%, the lowest level on record. The ICO aims to respond to 80% of complaints within a 90-day period. The report also revealed that 279 personal data breach reports were over 12 months old at the end of the quarter, up from 66 at the end of Q2.
The ICO took the unusual step of apologising for a backlog of unresolved complaints on 1 April and confirmed that the regulator would be recruiting 19 additional staff to respond to complaints and clear the backlog.
