US federal bankruptcy court has approved TTAM Research Institute's $305 million bid to acquire genetic testing company 23andMe, taking it out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy. TTAM, founded by 23andMe co-founder and former CEO Anne Wojcicki, plans to finalise the deal on 8 July.

In a letter to existing 23andMe customers, TTAM outlined its charitable mission: to continue 23andMe's innovative research and expand medical research and educational activities, empowering individuals with genetic knowledge. The letter underscored TTAM's commitment to its customers' privacy and confirmed its intention to uphold 23andMe's existing privacy policies of choice and transparency, a commitment legally mandated by the sale terms.

Customers were also reminded that they could still permanently delete their data from the company's servers at any time. TTAM intends to offer the same products while furthering scientific discoveries in human genetics.
