An analysis by CaseMatrix has revealed that over 900,000 individuals have been affected following the ransomware attack on pathology lab services provider Synnovis earlier in the year, which led to several hospitals and GP surgeries in London facing severe challenges in providing healthcare services. CaseMatrix identified 1.29 million individuals, but after allowing for a 2-3% error rate and removing duplicate entities, CaseMatrix is able to state with confidence that over 900,000 people were affected by the breach.
The NHS and Synnovis, responsible for safeguarding patient information, have not provided their own counts of the impacted individuals. Synnovis stated that their investigation is ongoing and that they are working to identify the extent of the impact on patient and employee data; however, the company is also focusing on restoring vital services.
According to CaseMatrix, the compromised data includes names, dates of birth, NHS numbers, and personal contact details, as well as pathology and histology forms describing intimate medical conditions. Synnovis has promised to communicate with impacted stakeholders as soon as appropriate.
