Irish Times criticises the Data Protection Commission

The Irish Times has launched a scathing critique of Ireland's Data Protection Commission, claiming its "Inability to take data protection seriously is damaging Ireland's reputation." Negative press both at home and overseas is increasing week by week, along with complaints from other EU data protection authorities, the privacy community and concern from the European Court of Justice. With its back to the wall, the Times feels its siege mentality defence is as much surprising as it is ill-judged. Ultimately, while for the most part avoidable, the DPC has brought most of its troubles on itself.
