DPC contacts Meta over reported 500m user WhatsApp data breach

The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has contacted Meta concerning a data breach at WhatsApp. Meta denied the breach took place after CyberNews reported a data leak with 487 million users' records up for sale over the weekend. The article claims that a bad actor had posted an ad on a known hacking site selling a 2022 database of user phone numbers on a country-by-country basis. The trove of data breaks down the number of users' data breached per country. If the breach report is accurate, 11,522,328 UK users is available for $2,500.
