Social media platform X has agreed to block UK access to accounts linked to banned terrorist organisations following an agreement with Ofcom. The communications regulator announced the measures as part of a targeted crackdown on terrorist and hate material, responding to concerns that dangerous content remains pervasive on social media.

Under the new terms, X is required to review at least 85% of suspected illegal terrorist and hate content within 48 hours of being flagged by its reporting tool. The company will also consult experts on how to handle user reports better.

Ofcom said that its online safety team will closely monitor compliance with these commitments against the requirements of the Online Safety Act 2023 (OSA). Separately, Ofcom confirmed it is continuing its investigation into X regarding the use of the Grok AI tool to generate and display manipulated, inappropriate images of women and girls.
