UPDATE: Age appropriate design code of practice comes into effect

The Children's code or Age appropriate design code, which regulates how online services take the "best interests" of users under 18 into account, has received a warm welcome from campaigners as it came into effect today. The code carries similar penalties to the GDPR, up to 4% of annual global turnover. Earlier this week, in a further sign online service providers are taking the Children's code seriously, The Guardian reported that Instagram will require users to enter their birthdate. 

UPDATE: 050921 - The Guardian reports on how social media companies have increased child safety following the introduction of the Children's code.
