Peter Kyle calls for new leadership at Alan Turing Institute

Peter Kyle, Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, has called for a significant overhaul of the UK's leading artificial intelligence (AI) institute, the Alan Turing Institute (ATI). In a letter to ATI's chair, Kyle proposes a shift in focus towards defence, national security, and sovereign capabilities, suggesting that the current emphasis on health and the environment would be downgraded.

Kyle stated that the Turing 2.0 strategy did not meet government requirements and indicated an expectation of leadership changes to reflect this "reformed focus" and the need for an executive team with relevant defence and national security backgrounds.
