US semiconductor company Nvidia has pledged $250 million (£200 million) of compute capacity over five years to support artificial intelligence (AI) safety and security research in the UK.

The computing resources will be delivered through domestic data centres running Nvidia chips, targeting research into safeguards for autonomous agentic AI following heightened safety concerns over multi-agent cyber threats. Jensen Huang, Nvidia's chief executive, said the aim is to give researchers accelerated computing to develop and test robust defences. Kanishka Narayan, the UK minister for AI, described the commitment as an endorsement of the country's technical expertise.

The funding will support the wider UK research community, including Imperial College London, the British Open-Ended Learning and Discovery Lab, and the Science of Fundamental AI Research Lab run jointly by Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, and University College London (UCL).
