NHS staff concerned by patients filming and posting treatment videos online
17/06/2025 | The Guardian
NHS staff, including radiographers, are increasingly worried about the impact of patients filming their medical treatment and uploading it to social media platforms, such as TikTok and Instagram. The Society of Radiographers (SoR) has expressed concern following numerous incidents that have the potential to compromise the privacy of other patients and staff whose names are visible if their work is discussed online.
Dean Rogers, the director of industrial strategy and member relations at the SoR, urges NHS trusts to ensure patients understand they need permission before filming. Both the Royal College of Radiologists and NHS England emphasise that filming rules are there to protect patient and staff dignity and privacy. They stress that recordings must be used for personal purposes only and never inadvertently capture other patients or sensitive information, let alone be posted online without their consent.
