NCSC warns cyberattacks have increased by 50% in a year
14/10/2025 | The Guardian
In its 2025 annual review, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has revealed a 50% rise in highly significant cyberattacks over the past 12 months, with the agency now handling a new nationally significant incident almost every other day. The NCSC identified China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea as the primary state threats, although the overall surge is primarily driven by criminal ransomware activity. Officials described the data as a “call to arms,” urging all UK organisations to develop robust contingency plans for their IT infrastructure.
Alongside the annual review, a ministerial letter was sent to the leaders of hundreds of major British companies, including all FTSE 350 CEOs, demanding that cyber-resilience be made a board-level responsibility to counter the increasingly intense, frequent, and sophisticated threat.
