Meta is being sued for £2.3bn under the 1998 Competition Act for setting an “unfair price” for UK users of Facebook in return for access to the social media service. The lawsuit argues that the zero-charge price for Facebook access is handing over personal data from which the company earns 98% of its income. In related news, a federal judge has ruled that the US Federal Trade Commission can proceed with a breakup lawsuit against Meta, which could force the company to sell Instagram and WhatsApp.
