ICO interview in The Guardian warns of increased cyber threat

In an interview with The Guardian, Information Commissioner John Edwards confirmed that the ICO has seen a "steady and significant" rise in the number of cyber-attacks against UK companies in the last 2-years. In the last 6-months of 2021, a total of 1,345 cybersecurity incidents, mostly made up of ransomware and phishing attacks, were reported to the ICO. This represents an increase of nearly 20% over 2019. The ICO has requested businesses to report attacks rather than delete them, especially considering the likelihood the frequency of attacks from Russian hackers will increase further due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
