Grindr fined £8.6m in Norway for Data Breach of GDPR

Dating app Grindr has been fined £8.6m, 10% of the company's global turnover, by the Norwegian DPA following an EU GDPR investigation in which the application was found to be sharing special category data with advertisers, including location, sexual orientation and mental health details. In its defence, Grindr argued how its users' sexual orientation was not exposed as some may be straight. This argument was rejected because the app explicitly markets itself as "exclusively for the gay/bi community".
