In further support of child sexual abuse survivors, the Echo Project has been launched in England and Wales to assist them in removing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) related to them from the internet.

Funded by the charities Safe Online and the Graham Dacre Foundation, the initiative was introduced at the International Policing and Public Protection Research Institute (IPPPRI) annual conference.

National police forces are helping the project by identifying and referring eligible victims. To locate explicit content on the open web and request its deletion, the project will access the UK's child abuse image database, a process facilitated by the Internet Watch Foundation. Once images are found, victims are identified by matching the unique reference numbers from their initial crime reports.
