Amazon to launch its Ring Doorbell neighbourhood watch app in the UK

Amazon-owned doorbell camera company Ring will launch its Neighbours community application in the UK on 21 October. Operating as a digital community message board within the existing Ring app, the free service lets residents share updates on local safety, community issues, or lost pets. The platform will be accessible to all individuals, irrespective of whether they own Ring hardware. At rollout, posts will be anonymised, categorised, and subject to rules prohibiting illegal material, discrimination, and speculation.

Controversial features deployed in the US will be withheld at launch. These include Neighbours Verified, which lets organisations like local fire services broadcast alerts, and Community Requests, which lets police forces request camera footage related to local incidents. Both opt-in tools are being refined for the UK market ahead of introduction later this year at the earliest.
