Oracle-led consortium to control 80% stake in US TikTok

The US and China are finalising a framework for TikTok's US operations, which would see an investor consortium, including Oracle, Silver Lake and Andreessen Horowitz, control the business. According to a report, first published by The Wall Street Journal (£), a new company would be created to operate the app in the US, with American investors holding an 80% stake and a majority on the board.

Under the framework, Oracle would handle all US user data at its Texas facilities, and existing users would be asked to switch to a new, standalone app. The development follows an announcement by President Donald Trump of a new agreement to keep TikTok operating in the US, with a law requiring Chinese divestiture now delayed until December.
