Irish government approves Data Protection Commission expansion

Helen McEntee, Ireland's Minister for Justice, announced on Wednesday that the Irish government had approved expanding the Data Protection Commission (DPC) by adding two new commissioners "to support the evolving organisational structure, governance and business needs" of the DPC. In addition, Helen McEntee confirmed that current Commissioner Helen Dixon would be appointed as Chairperson of the DPC. McEntee said, "today's government decision sends a strong statement of its intention to continue to build the capacity of the (DPC), support the existing Commissioner and ensure that the Commission can continue to deliver on its role."  The announcement is well timed ahead of the LIBE Committee delegation travelling to Ireland next month to discuss GDPR enforcement.
