While a US federal privacy law isn't on the agenda anytime soon, the new Global Cross-Border Privacy Rules Forum met in Hawaii last week to confirm details on potential global data protection rules. The group consists of countries including the US, Singapore, Japan and others from the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). If successful, it will mean personal data can be transferred freely across international borders between the members. The group hopes the UK and Brazil will also join by the end of the year.
