EDPS calls for EU ban on Pegasus spyware

Following news last week that the EU Parliament is considering opening an investigation into NSO Group, the Office of the European Data Protection Supervisor has recommended an EU ban on the Israeli companies Pegasus spyware. The EDPS released a statement saying that a halt on the surveillance technology would be the "most effective option to protect our fundamental rights and freedoms." In addition, the EDPS published a white paper supporting "assessment in the EU and globally of the unprecedented risks posed" by Pegasus and similar spyware.
