CNIL president warns against using facial recognition in 2024 Olympics

In an article by Politico, Marie-Laure Denis, president of the French data protection authority, the CNIL, has warned against using live facial recognition for security during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Plans are in place to use AI-powered cameras to ensure visitor safety throughout the Olympics, but CNIL President Marie-Laure Denis said, "members of the CNIL's college call on parliamentarians not to introduce facial recognition, that is to say the identification of people on the fly in the public space."

UPDATE: 010223 - The Register reports the French Senate approved the use of real-time video surveillance of visitors to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics but rejected the use of facial recognition technology or any kind of biometrics that could be used for data analytics.
